Energy Infrastructure Is Becoming Part of the Battlefield

The current conflict is not only disrupting energy routes. It is also threatening energy infrastructure directly. Reuters reported that a missile hit a gasoline storage tank and an industrial building at Israel’s Oil Refineries in Haifa, highlighting how fuel-related infrastructure is now increasingly exposed during the war. Although production was reported to be unaffected in that case, the incident reflects how vulnerable energy systems have become in a military escalation.

There have also been warnings about possible attacks on oil plants, power plants, and other critical facilities if tensions continue to rise. That makes this crisis especially dangerous, because damage to infrastructure can create longer-term supply problems, not just temporary price spikes. Once refineries, storage facilities, and power systems are targeted, restoring normal operations becomes much harder.

This is why the energy story matters so much in this war. It is no longer only about who controls territory or military advantage. It is also about whether essential systems that support fuel, electricity, and transport can remain stable under pressure.
